Episode 9: "Perfection?! Princess of Celestial Realm"

You dropped this. The Queen blows on something
that fell off the latest entrant to the Princess Academy...a _feather_?! Oh, NO!! The HORROR! So _that's_ why Yuushi is
so upset about the upcoming Open House... "I DON'T NEED THAT MUCH!!" shrieks Yuushi--in real
life--to the daydream of her father bringing a really huge lunch. Not
surprisingly, everyone else in the room stares at her funny. "He'll just drop by on his way home from the
office..." Do I _want_ to know what kind of "work" Satan will be leaving
early...? A universal problem. Grenda imagines HER father
being just as embarrassing as Yuushi's, if not worse. Ah, yes--teenagers who
are embarrassed by their parents--truly a _universal_ phenomenon. "Are you disobeying me?!" Grenda threatens to
throttle Gaga if he doesn't destroy the gate between Hell and Earth. Gaga,
however, is trying to explain... "GRENDA-CHAN!!" ...that it's already too late.
(Nice outfit there, Satan. (snicker) Geez, what's with this thing in recent
cartoons about the Devil being a cross-dresser? It's like a _trend_,
lately...) See ya next FALL! Grenda, rather than have
everybody see how embarrassing her father is...drops him into a portal! All
you parents out there--you can rest a little easier now, knowing that no
matter HOW bad your own kids may have been, at least they've never dropped
you down a dark vortex. (beat) At least, they _probably_ haven't... 'Scuse me. Meanwhile, the new girl is off down the
corridor looking for her classes... The fourth candidate! Presenting: Erumina, daughter
of the King of Heaven. (She's either an angel or a goddess; not sure which
you'd call her, exactly.) Although you might want to put those wings away
before you whap somebody with 'em. "WHAT'S THAT?" Yuushi and Kokoru hold
each other in fear as the giant shadow of...SOMEthing looms over them from
outside the classroom window. "But doesn't everybody have robots for servants?"
Erumina introduces her faithful household retainer--Barizan! "Order a new front door, would you Igor?"
Barizan's attempt to leave politely through the door...didn't exactly work. Nice pose, Yuushi...now let's see if you can
beat Patricia Hearns at the Harvest Festival! Poetry in motion Meanwhile, angel-girl comes
leaping gracefully through with the greatest of ease. Of course. Down in the dumps. Yuushi and Kokoru both doubt
their chances to ever get the Tiara, when compared to Erumina. Excuse me?! Ah, yes...Chow just has his own
little _style_ when it comes to pep-talks, doesn't he? MISTRESS!! Cube comes rushing over to the girls,
panting with exhaustion, to give Yuushi a warning. Just as she feared. Yep, sure, enough, Papa
is planning to make her an insanely HUGE lunch. You dropped this. Erumina picks up a tomato
that fell out of Papa's grocery bag, and she, Papa, and Barizan walk down the
village street together. "I don't need all that! Geez!" says an exasperated
Yuushi, with a (still tired) Cube behind her. Aww. A nice group picture of old characters and
new, together in the sunset. Four out of five... All the candidates we've
met so far, lined up together in the Principal's office. Go with art. Chow helps Kokoru decide what to do
for her Open House presentation. "Can't think of anything you're good at?" says Grenda
snidely, as Yuushi has to take a moment to figure out what the heck she's going
to DO for the class inspection night. "No, wait, you have to fight against ME!"
Grenda, determined to make the Princess of Heaven her personal enemy, is rather
taken aback when Erumina decides to do ballet for her presentation (like
Yuushi) rather than magic, like what Grenda's doing. "Some girl wants to challenge you." However,
challenges only work if the person KNOWS they're being challenged... "I'm TALKING to YOU!" yells Grenda, furiously.
Erumina, meanwhile, is like, "Why are you yelling...?" (or rather, I almost
got the feeling that Erumina might have been doing the thing of (turn to the
next person) "Someone wants to talk to you." on _purpose_, so as to give
Grenda a chance to cool down without losing face. I mean, we _know_ Erumina
isn't actually _stupid_...) "Failure is NOT an option." We get our first insight
as to just _why_ Erumina makes sure to do everything so perfectly at all
times. High kick! Yuushi practices ballet in her
bedroom, at home. Nice threads! Papa's outfit for the Open House
day. "What, too plain?" "Groan..." Yuushi and Grenda,
embarrassed by their fathers, in unison. Like I said--truly universal. The art demonstration Kokoru shows off the
picture she did for her presentation...and as you can see, unfortunately Satan
"dressed up" for Open House, too. :P "RUN FOR THE HILLS!!" Unfortunately, Grenda's
magic presentation didn't go so well... Eat up! Sure enough, Papa DID bring Yuushi a huge
lunch...despite all of her _and_ Cube's efforts. Encore! Erumina finishes her dance perfectly, of
course. Grenda gives Yuushi a typical pep talk. Oh, great,
THANK you, Grenda, I feel a _lot_ better now. (snicker) Little swan-princess It starts off
okay... but quickly turns to disaster as Yuushi
stumbles and falls a short way into her presentation. Undefeated, however,
Yuushi just picks herself right back up and tries again! And again...and
again... Loyal father At first, Yuushi's dance met with
thunderous silence...then Papa started clapping alone. Then Satan joins in
(awww... ?!) and then _everybody_ starts clapping for her. And she must LOOK like her, too. (Because I saw
this episode, originally, _before_ I was able to get a hold of episodes 5-7, I
used to think that Grenda's mother was _dead_--I mean, that's what "departed"
_usually_ means, ne? But no, she just LEFT, as was said in episode 7.) Actually I was thinking this, too. Kokoru agrees with
me--that, in a way, Grenda and Yuushi are far more _alike_ than either one of
them would care to admit.
