(Basic Information About the Show)

The following information has been certified as spoiler-free. You may proceed without worry.

Puchi Puri Yuushi (or "Petite Princess Yucie", PPY for short either way) is an anime series that takes place in a strange fantasy universe, where magic is so common and taken for granted it's become a _business_ and magical races/creatures are all over the place. The star of the show is a young girl named Yuushi, the adopted daughter of Gunberd, a man who used to be a great warrior and hero, but is retired now. Yuushi seems like a normal enough 10 year old girl on the surface...but there's nothing normal about her appearance at all--considering she's actually 17!
Poor Yuushi is under some kind of curse, you see...her body stopped growing and aging when she hit age 10, and she has no idea why. When she tells this to her friend, an old dragon, he tells her about the Eternal Tiara. The Eternal Tiara contains five jewels--one to represent each of the five realms (the Human realm, Fairyland, the Spirit World, Heaven, and Hell)--and the person who wears it can have _any_ wish.
But there's a catch, of course--only the right person, the Platina Princess, can wear the Tiara. If anybody else even _touches_ it, they die. The Platina Princess is a very special person who only shows up once every 1,000 years...and who has a heart that matches the tiara, that is to say, personality traits from all five main races. Queen Erisel stops Yuushi JUST before she would have touched the tiara and died, to tell her this, then she enrolls Yuushi in the Princess Academy. Yuushi is now a candidate to become the Platina Princess!
...but she's not the _only_ one...
The show eventually introduces us to _five_ candidates--one for each race, of course--and we follow the hijinks of the five girls (and their loyal and rather overworked servants) as they tackle different classes in school (ranging from the mundane (art, music) to the exotic (magic)) and a bizzarre array of part-time jobs in order to "strengthen their hearts"--as well as the occasional just flat out adventure. There's plenty of humour, but also as the series goes on it gets more serious, the characters become deeper, and it becomes more and more apparent that several of them are hiding something.
And by the time all five Platina Princess candidates are on the stage, you realise that they _all_ have major problems that they really need to solve, and that you want ALL of them to be happy...but only _one_ can actually get the Tiara!

Main Characters

Yuushi (Voice actress: Maria Yamamoto)--Yuushi is an orphan, it's unknown who her parents were, but she is being brought up as well as can be expected by her loving but sort of clueless "Papa". Despite the fact of her curse, Yuushi is basically a cheerful, energetic, well-meaning little tomboy--though she _wants_ to be an elegant lady. She has a hot temper and can fly off the handle quickly but is basically a decent person--hard-working, honest, and _desperate_ to prove that she is NOT "just a kid".

Cube (Voice actor: Tomo Saeki)--This oddly-named little fellow is not an elf, as he may seem, but actually a demon. He's not at all like a typical demon in personality, however...he's sweet, caring, hard-working, honest, loyal, and very polite--aside from the occasional refusal to do a job or sarcastic mouthing off, but that's fairly rare. He's quite handy to have around, as not only is he just naturally good at domestic tasks like washing dishes and cooking food, but is also a dab hand with magic and can always conjure a useful item...provided he brought enough money with him to _pay_ for it!
What's even stranger is the fact that he's been working for Gunberd's family as a servant for at least 17 years, but they don't really seem the type to have servants, and just why _is_ a demon "lowering" himself by willingly serving a human family, anyway? And just why was he kicked out of Hell...?

Papa (Voice actor: Kenyuu Horiuchi)--Gunberd, the retired warrior (or "Papa" as he is most usually called) used to be a great hero, and he found a tiny baby in the forest one night...surrounded by a strange, glowing light. Confused, he took the child home and raised her as his own. Papa is a bit clueless (he always cooks WAY too much for Yuushi's meals, for example) but he genuinely cares about his daughter, and treats Cube more like an adopted son than a servant a lot of the time, too.

Kokoru (Voice actress: Yukari Fukui) --Yuushi's best friend, Kokoru is a quiet girl with glasses, who is so very soft-spoken and shy that, as she often complains, people don't very often notice her. ("It's like I don't even exist...") She, like Yuushi, is another normal middle/working-class girl and so therefore it's a bit confusing at first as to exactly _how_ she is managing to afford going to the Princess Academy. Kokoru, being the kindest-hearted and gentlest of the main characters, is usually the voice of reason in the middle of chaos and often tries to play "peacemaker" in the fights between Yuushi and Grenda...with, er, little success. Though she's not good at saying things out loud, Kokoru _can_ express herself--through pictures. She's easily the best artist out of the whole group.

Queen Erisel (Voice actress: Kikuko Inoue)--Not only the Queen of the realm but also the principal of the school in her spare time ;) Queen Erisel is beautiful, kind, wise, and just. She's far from perfect, however--her lectures can be very long, she's sometimes a bit too strict, she often forgets to say crucial bits of information BEFORE sending students off on a quest, and last but not least...she seems to know something about the Crystal Flowers and the Tiara that she's not telling everybody...

Grenda (Voice actress: Yuki Matsuoka)--the "Gorgeous, the elegant, with fantastic magical powers, Princess of Hell!" This hot-tempered, snooty little demon-girl is Yuushi's first--and most competitive--rival for the Eternal Tiara. Grenda seems just a brat on the surface but is actually a complex character, full of contradictions. Grenda goes on and on about how SHE'S so much more MATURE than Yuushi, but acts the most childlike out of all the candidates; she seems mean-spirited and vicious yet she has a soft spot underneath and can be counted on--if grudgingly--when the chips are _really_ down--and last but not least, underneath her sarcastic, flippant exterior she can be a real starry-eyed romantic. Grenda really badly wants the Tiara, too--and for personal reasons that she'd rather not talk about. She's also desperately eager to prove herself at all times, and because of that, she always wants to get her jobs done faster and better, to reach the ends of quests before anybody else, etc.--which makes her and Yuushi far more alike than they realise...or would care to admit.

Gaga (Voice actor: Yasutsugu Ishii) --Grenda's loyal servant, he is also, of course, a demon--a roughly 7-foot-tall catlike being with red pupil-less eyes, long flowing silver hair, markings on his forehead and an odd black bodysuit. He can shapeshift into a strange black winged cat-creature, can open up portals with a snap of his finger same as Grenda can, and is quite strong. However, he's been in service for "over 1,004 years" as he so proudly says, and is starting to get old, even by demon standards--sometimes his hip goes out! Gaga is very prim and proper--making Cube, who always calls Yuushi "Miss" rather than by her name, come off like a flippant little teenage rebel by comparison--and is constantly berating Cube for not being a "proper" servant. Unlike his mistress, who is furious at Cube for serving humans in the first place, Gaga only cares that Cube, as a fellow servant, do his job _right_.
Gaga's best-known "talent" is possibly his ability to put EVERYbody--and every_thing_!--in the room to sleep with his droning lectures.

Arc--A wandering adventurer who drops in from time to time, he seems to be on the run from something...what, he won't tell anybody. He wants to find the great hero who restored the Eternal Tiara, but again, he won't say why. He has a very powerful magic sword and is quite good with it, too, but where he got it from, we don't know. All we _really_ know about Arc, to begin with, is that he strangely reminds Yuushi of somebody from her past...and that she has a crush on him. Aww. ;)
Despite the fact that he always calls her "huge forehead" and makes fun at her expense every chance she gets. :P When they're not _screaming_ at each other they could make a cute couple, but those moments are rare...

Erumina (Voice actress: Ayako Kawasumi)--the Princess of Heaven, this golden-haired angel/goddess girl (not sure which exactly) is the daughter of the King of Heaven (since there's a whole pantheon he'd be more like Zeus or someone like that, than God, though) and has feathery white wings which she can materialise and dematerialise at will. At first she seems perfect--TOO perfect--elegant, serene, calm and just naturally very mature for her age without having to work hard at it--but we later learn that her "perfection" came from a very tough childhood in which, as she says, "Failure is NOT an option." Her father was terribly, terribly strict and if she made even the _tiniest_ mistake, he never forgave her for it. Erumina's main reason to become the Platina Princess is because she thinks it would _finally_ make her father admit he's proud of her...just once.

Beth (Voice actress: Fumiko Orikasa)--the Princess of the Fairy Kingdom/Elfland, Beth is a crafty, cunning individual with a surly, taciturn personality and a burning desire to become the Platina Princess. To achieve this goal she will lie, cheat, steal, trap the other candidates, send monsters out after them and cast wind spells--whatever. She also refuses to go to the Princess Academy, insisting that she can be a candidate just fine right where she is and will win without any stupid education. However...it seems that perhaps Beth's anger and surliness is caused by a hidden worry about her father...and the ruthlessness of her quest for the Tiara comes from her desperation to save her homeland. And when it comes to the other candidates, well, let's just say...she does have her good days.

Minor Characters

Drago-Sama--the ancient dragon who seems to have known Yuushi for quite some time, this mysterious and yet powerful character is always willing to give her some advice when she needs it--even if it does mean he has to be woken up from a good nap. :P He also sometimes helps out with the action-adventure parts of a quest, or tells Cube/the other servants where to find Yuushi and the other girls, when they're in trouble.

Jing--Yuushi's pet, Jing (sometimes called "Jin") is a little tiny baby dragon. He doesn't talk, but gets huffy if Yuushi misses one of his meals. Seems to perhaps be some kind of great great (insert many greats) here grandchild of Drago-Sama, but that's unclear.

Chow--This little ghost is Kokoru's family retainer, and actually follows her around almost everywhere, though he (at least, I _think_ it's a he) appears only rarely--and usually from out of either Kokoru's shadow, or from out of someone else's _body_, to cause maximum surprise and disturbance. Chow is mischevious and loves to play practical jokes (he can temporarily take on the form of anybody else) but is fiercely devoted to "Kokoru-sama", and often goes around insulting her classmates while complimenting her.

Barizan--Princess Erumina's servant, this huge, hulking robot (yes, Heaven has robotics technology; I thought everybody knew that? ;)) is by his mistress's side whenever he can be--though not while at school, as he tends to rip out large sections of the wall while trying to go through the doors. :P Though a robot, Barizan has emotions--he cares deeply about Erumina and treasures memories of her above all others, he can appreciate the beauty of a flock of rainbow butterflies, etc. Sometimes really awful things happen to Barizan, such as being buried in the ocean floor (!) but he is usually quick to recover.

Berubel--Beth's servant, a tiny little fairy. She puts "desu" on the ends of all of her sentences to be cute--and comes across as _sickeningly_ so. As a servant, her main usefulness is as a swift carrier of information--considering she can't carry heavy objects or open the door for you or anything like that. However, she _can_ be somewhat brave and competent when she has to be.

Frederik--a servitor of some kind who works at the castle, Frederik seems to be very proper--but not to the point of being snooty--loyal, and not easily fooled. I can't say much more about him than that, because his role ties in very closely to one of the show's main secrets...
